Estimator
Seeking a Construction Estimator for a large Rochester, NY based construction company. Candidates must have at least 5 years estimating experience, with emphasis on self perform concrete takeoff and pricing. The Estimator will execute quality estimates on every project. Work with the Estimating and Operations leadership to takeoff, scope, and price consistent, quality estimates to ensure corporate and departmental directives are met.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Leadership Role
• Understand and execute department policies and procedures
• Participate in Pike University and outside industry training.
• Participate in performance evaluations.
• Work with subcontractor and vendor market to create relationships, obtain advantages and find strategies to win
Managerial Role
• Works closely with Director of Estimating to ensure quality of estimates
• Works closely with Operations leaders to ensure quality of estimates.
• Participate in pre-estimate checklist meetings with estimating and operations team members.
• Perform site visits to ensure accuracy of estimates.
• Provide preliminary review all estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to review by Chief Estimator or Director of Construction Management Estimating.
Document Control
• Execute and manage document control per the entire estimating department policies and procedures.
Preconstruction and Construction Management Estimates
• Participate in a document review at the beginning of the project estimating process.
• Maintain proper documentation for each estimate including establishing and updating project estimate books.
• Execute quality preconstruction and construction management estimates per department policies and procedures every time. (Including: conceptual budgets, schematic budgets, design development budgets, construction document estimates, etc…)
• Perform quality takeoffs per department policies and procedures every time.
• Ensure good market and pricing information though creating and maintaining good relationships with subcontractors.
• Maintain good relationships with the design community.
• Participate in constructability reviews as needed.
• Participate in value management process as needed.
Hard Bid Lump Sum Estimates
• Participate in a document review at the beginning of the project estimating process.
• Perform quality takeoffs per department policies and procedures every time.
• Execute quality subcontractor solicitation per department policies and procedures every time.
• Execute quality unit price estimates per department policies and procedures every time.
• Participate in value engineering process if needed on any project.
Historical Cost Database
• Provide accurate information for the historical cost database per the Estimating Department policies and procedures.
• Perform data input into the historical cost database.
Subcontractor and Vendor Database
• Provide accurate information to the Director of Estimating to maintain the company subcontractor and vendor database.
• Perform data input into the subcontractor and vendor database.
Bid Day Management
• Work closely with Director of Estimating to generate quality subcontractor scope sheets per department policies and procedures every time.
• Deliver bids as needed
Interviewing/Presentation
• Participate in interviews and/or presentations as needed.
Skills/Knowledge/Education/Experience Required:
• At least 5 years estimating experience with emphasis on self perform concrete takeoff and pricing
• Construction Knowledge: site work, concrete, carpentry, masonry, subcontractor involvement
• Industry Knowledge: (School, University, Correctional, Retail, Power/Industrial, Manufacturing, Civil, etc.)
• Construction standards, practices, techniques, and technology
• Timberline Estimating / Bid Day / iSqft Sub Solicitation / Primavera / COINS / Excel / Microsoft Office
• BS Civil Engineering / Construction Management or equivalent work experience
• Possible relocation to the Albany office
